Yes, I think we all need reminders to let it out sometimes! Last week I had some crazy dreams and woke with a song spinning in my head. A Hamilton song Iβve heard and sang countless timesβbut one line hit me the way it never had before and I was sobbing in the shower. βIf thereβs a reason Iβm still alive while so many have died, Iβm willing to wait for it.β Birthdays are weird for me. π€·ββοΈ I didnβt realize it was still weighing me down until I let it out.
"Finish your feelings" will sit with me for a good while. I typed more in my original comment but lost it to the Substack app's weirdness, so maybe I'll save it for Voxer. π₯° I always love your storytelling, Leslie!
Thanks so much! Though βfinish your feelingsβ is something I taught them when they were young, they are now reminding me of thisβ¦ With my capacity stretched thin the past couple weeks, I said something to Amy about screaming and crying every time she needs to brush teeth or do (minimal) chores lately. She pointedly said, βBut itβs ok to scream and cry.β
Touche. But maybe you can scream into a swuishmallow. In your room.
I had trouble coming up with a title for this one (thus didnβt have my link for blog hop form), so I just kept writing. When that line came out I knew I finally found the title!
What a beautiful post. βFinish your feelingsβ is such a great phrase. Thank you β€οΈ
Thanks so much! I'm glad that had an impact.
A great reminder of how kids hold stress too.
I loved the "finish your feelings" idea. I need to reflect on that line and use it to with my kiddos (and myself!!). Thanks for sharing this story!
So glad that resonated! Itβs a simple concept that can have a lot of impact.
The stress release cycle. I have one who really struggles to let go of his stress, and this reminds me how we often have to teach kids how to do that.

The emotional regulation skill- building is so good and this story examplifies it well! Also the Heartland pseudonyms *chef's kids*
Thank you, I just couldnβt get this experience out of my mind. I hoped it would come across to others as well.
I love the βrainbow of healing.β π
