Leslie, what a year! You came to this conclusion yourself, but I just want to reiterate--you did so much creating with your girls, even if it didn't look the way you expected.
"It was a reminder to move past the grief for all the things left undone, and instead celebrate the accomplishments that carried me through the year.
And also, "If I don’t write it down, it will spin in my head, taunting me and building up like constipation of the soul. Did I just relate writing to colon flow? I sure did; because if a writer doesn’t let the story out, that shit will make you physically ill as it festers inside you, manifesting as struggle to focus, anxiety, or a nagging ache inside." LOL, and so relatable.
I forgot about that gorgeous adventure picture and I am here for the dining doodle!
Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts! 💜 Looking back, I can’t believe how much shadow I carried through 2024 when there was really so much light. Reminds me how important these reviews are to me and my well being.
I feel inspired reading about all of your different types of creativity! I re-found sewing/quilting last year and it lit me up! At the moment, I am working on knitting a doll for my 2 year-old and much agree with not enjoying the fiddly-ness of the project like you described the Roz stuffy! I, too, find it all worth it when I see those creations bring joy and warmth to the recipients though! Lastly, now I am thinking through some sort of "dining doodle" project for myself- what a great idea!
I’m so glad to hear it! Ooh I’d love to see how the doll turns out. I have always wanted to take up quilting but haven’t yet… I have saved old jeans for years to make a denim quilt some day.
Thank you! The books are so good, and I just love the illustrations too! We mostly listened to the audiobooks in the car but also own the printed books. The audiobooks come with a PDF download of the illustrations, so I put it on the iPad and we took turns coloring them on screen while listening to the books (myself included). Then my 8 yr started her own picture book in that style called “The Wild Gosling.” It was whole thing this summer!
I love that so much! This morning I pulled out my crochet hook because I'm determined to learn now and possibly make a Roz down the road! (Do you have any tips for internet places to learn?!) I know how to knit, but crocheting always seems more daunting somehow, but I love all the little creatures and stuffies people are able to crochet.
My daughter loves Toni from TL Yarn Crafts on YT. You can try her beginner videos. I tend to click around to find someone on youtube that feels right or simply records their tutorial well and that may be a different person for each project. When I wanted to do a chevron blanket stitch, I searched youtube and watched a handful of videos until I found one that made it feel doable for me.
That ROZ!!! I would totally buy one from you if you ever decided to make another one! We’re just about done with The Wild Robot Protects and I have a feeling I’m going to miss these books.
They really are great books! It’s funny you say that—when I was working on the set I swore I would NEVER make these to sell. But never say never.
She is so cute, and I love the magnet in Roz’s shoulder and Brightbill’s bum so that he sticks to her shoulder without falling. Maybe someone is selling them made on Etsy (not just the pattern)?
I enjoyed your writing, your photos, and the photos of your projects. I especially loved the colored dining room table doodles. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much!

I love your crocheted Roz! I'm reading aloud The Wild Robot Protects with my kids right now and I've loved the whole series (and movie!) so much.

I feel that way about knitting!

Kim! Love that we’re both on the third wild robot book!
There were more showers than podcasts! 😂
Love the way Kori Janes describes her writing experience!
